From the desk of the Director of Guidance...
Our mission in the Guidance Department is to make a difference by making connections and forming relationships with our students! The students are our priority and we want to assist in every way possible to help them to become more successful in the classroom. I would like to introduce to you a few exciting ways that our office is helping students to overcome obstacles. That's right! Help is here! Read on to see how your son or daughter may benefit...
The TRIBE TEE PEE is a closet located in the Guidance office specifically set up to address students needs with clothing and other necessities. Many times, I have worked with students who simply do not have "dress code compliant" clothing available to wear to school. So, in an effort to help that student from serving a day of in-school suspension, we can now offer a visit to the TEE PEE. This has made a tremendous difference in our students utilizing all possible class time opportunities.
The TRIBE TUTORING program has derived from the special efforts of one of our very own students, Duncan Bryant. The has made the difference in a number of students ability to learn and progress in class due to the "one on one" efforts of our TUTORS throughout the day. Also, Joey Lasure and Chappin Walker have opened up the TRIBE TUTORING program at 7:45 until 8:10 each and every morning in the Guidance office. This opportunity is open to anyone who needs help. Just show up! It's that easy! By the way, an after school program is in the works.
The TRIBE MENTORING program is an opportunity for approximately 25 MCHS students to meet weekly with a student from Tennessee Wesleyan College. These students have a wonderful opportunity to form positive relationships with role models from TWC who are willing to listen and assist students in learning more about themselves. Through simply listening, helping to direct students with post-secondary opportuniities, and some decision making skills! Wouldn't you love for your child to make a positive connection with another adult in their life and make a new friend along the way?
If you feel that any of these opportunities can help your son or daughter be more successful at McMinn, please feel free to contact the guidance office directly at 745-7035.
Remember, each day is a new day, an opportunity to begin again...
Sincerely:
Heidi Ables
Director of Guidance
McMinn County High School
On Monday, February 20 there will be a Parent/Teacher Conference Day here at the high school from 12:00pm - 6:00pm. There will be no school for students on this day. If you are a parent or guardian of one of our students, please make plans to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teachers and discuss his/her academic progress. We look forward to having you here.
On Jan. 3rd, we will be launching our new website, mcminnhigh.com. We have worked hard to create this site as an online portal for students, parents, faculty, and the community wanting more information about the high school. At launch, the site will have some information unavailable but will continually be updated throughout the month of January. We hope that the site will greatly improve communication between all stakeholders and also provide an enjoyable multimedia experience through various photos and videos.
